Agniveer Bharti 2024: Salary and Compensation Details

New Delhi: During the Monsoon session of the Parliament on Monday, the Agniveer scheme sparked significant debate. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh stated that if an Agniveer dies during service, their family receives a compensation of one crore rupees. Here’s a detailed look at the salary and compensation for Agniveers in case of death or disability.

Agniveer Recruitment and Service Tenure

Under the Agnipath scheme, Agniveers are recruited into the Indian Army, Air Force, and Navy for a period of four years. After completing four years of service, 25% of Agniveers are offered permanent positions in the military.

Salary Details for Agniveers

  • First Year: ₹30,000 per month
  • Second Year: ₹33,000 per month
  • Third Year: ₹36,500 per month
  • Fourth Year: ₹40,000 per month

Each Agniveer contributes 30% of their monthly salary to a service fund, matched by the government. After these deductions, the in-hand salary is as follows:

  • First Year: ₹21,000 per month
  • Second Year: ₹23,100 per month
  • Third Year: ₹25,550 per month
  • Fourth Year: ₹28,000 per month

Compensation in Case of Death

Each Agniveer is provided with a non-contributory life insurance cover of ₹48 lakhs. In addition, a gratuity of ₹44 lakhs is provided in the event of death during service. The accumulated amount in the service fund is also given to the family. The breakdown of compensation includes:

  • Insurance: ₹48 lakhs
  • Army Women Welfare Association: ₹30,000
  • Funeral Expenses: ₹9,000
  • Army Central Welfare Fund: ₹8 lakhs
  • Ex-gratia: ₹44 lakhs

Furthermore, MoUs with banks ensure that Agniveers’ salary accounts come with free insurance coverage for those who die in the line of duty. States also provide additional financial assistance to the families of deceased soldiers.

Compensation for Disability

If an Agniveer suffers a disability during service, compensation is provided based on the percentage of disability as determined by medical officers.
